I watched the Spanish adaptation of this book and I honestly thought it was one of the best teenage romances I've seen. It was well made and the actors were all very fitting for their roles. But I never really gave too much thought to reading the book. I knew it was translated in Bulgarian but I never saw a translation in English which was one of my reasons to not be too excited about reading the book. After all, I got the book in Bulgarian and now I'm not sure what to think. It's possible that I read a really, really bad translation, but it's also possible that the author has a very childish style of writing. What I can say from my overall impression of Tre metri sopra il cielo is that the overall idea of the book is good but the execution is lacking in many ways.1. I've read that nobody in Italy wanted to publish the book so the author paid for the first edition out of his own pocket.

I'm pretty sure that's not exactly true and that he was paid by companies to advertise their products because the entire book is a GIANT ad. It is mentioned, and unnecessary so, what EVERYONE is wearing - the brand of each pair of jeans, each pair of sunglasses, the perfumes, the motors they are driving, their sneakers, their shirts, the places they go. It's worse than The Best Movie Ever Sold and that's the actual point of that movie.2. All of the people in the book are so superficial and there's no shame in it. The guys who spend their entire days and inheritance in the gym are glorified, the girls stand around and sigh and that's accepted as pretty normal, it's good to ruin stuff, to be mean, to fight. I kind of have the feeling that in the Spanish movie they added a little bit of integrity to the characters for which I'm very glad.I can't say that I don't like the storyline though. If you remove all of the really bad elements, namely the two I stated above, it's a classical tale most girls fall for.

It's a tried recipe, Moccia definitely didn't invent anything, but it's still nice, especially for a girly girl like me. I admit, I can be bought with a love story like this one. I read this book in German a few years ago. It was a bestseller in Italy and it even got made into a movie in Italy and later in Spain. I actually don't even remember how I heard about this book. It was even a little bit difficult to order it, because it wasn't that well known in Germany back then in 2007.

But it was worth it because I liked the book at the time and loved the movie (italian version). It's not a very complex story, nor will you find the characters deep. It's the perfect book for your vacation or when you've just read a difficult or tragic book and need something lighter to get the bitter taste out of your mouth. It follows the story of Babi, rich girl who goes to private school and does everything that's expected of her, and Step, rebel boy who hangs out with this gang which enjoys motorcycles and fist fights. They live in Rome, and the city basically is the third main character of the book. You might already know what will happen. Two different worlds collide, young people fall in love for the first time, they get into trouble, they fight, they make up, parents get mad, teachers as well, and in the end everything falls apart. It may be a modern fairy tale with a not so happy end.

It was a very popular book in Italy among teenagers and it surely does have an appeal to it. It's fun and sad and when I was 17 and read it for the first time, it made me cry a lot. Also, Riccardo Scamarcio is such a perfect Step. He makes the movie worth watching! Siento mucha curiosidad acerca de eso, porque mi amigo, Hellena Elen.Tres Metros Sobre El Cielo or Three Meters Above Heaven in English and 'Tiga Meter di atas Langit' in Bahasa. She recommended a film with title 'Tres metros sobre el cielo' same with this one. She told me, the film has a beautiful story. So, I found out about the movie. The movie adapted by a novel.I very.very.very want to read this one.

But, my Spanish isn't very well no.no but very bad. I'm on basic level (beginner). So anyone can translate that in English or in Bahasa?

(this one have an English translate edition?)Or maybe I dare to read that with Spanish dictionary next to me. Haha.I got the e-book by the way, just waiting till my brain in superfine condition so I'll read that.I like that guy in the movie by the way;) So handsome:D. Unlike the idiotic, unnecessarily popular and bad movie, this book is a decent teenage novel. Aw, ain’t that sweet and completely ridiculous? Sure, it happens, but if you fall for a bad boy, and he turns good for you, he wouldn’t be the guy you fell for because, loved that BAD in him. A little unrealistic. If a person is bad on the inside, you let that go, but if he’s a good person with no choice that’s another story.

Never mind, I got off topic there.Anyway, the story is well developed and detailed. But I can’t help the feel that is written according to a romance recipe. Everything seems so perfect for them, a lot of unrealistic situations and time match. Of course, you have to consider that the book is basically the fantasy of million adolescent girls in 200 pages. Not sure if I feel annoyed with or bad for the girls who all think the same.

(digression again)In the end, Moccia did a pretty decent job on this book. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it,I don't even know what to think about this book, like it's so frustrating the ending but what am I going to do. I definitely feel like the relationship of Babi and Step wasn't really a relationship. I think it was mainly just lust. Instead of Pollo and Pallina who to me looked like a couple.

I'm so ugh with the fact that the main couple (to me) had no interesting scenes at all.The only thing that saves this book is mainly Pollo, Step, Pallina and the overall funny stuff of the book. I don't even like Babi. She frustrates me. To me she's kinda dumb sometimes.I'm gonna continue this trilogy just because I have the second book and I don't want my money to be wasted. I'm gonna take a break from reading because I have two mega important math tests this upcoming September 4th.

And I don't want to fail math so yeah.Anyways, 2 stars for me but only because I really like Pallina, Pollo and Step. I don't like very much Moccia's chaotic writing, mixing ideas and stories without order, but this is my favourite over his books. I think maybe the story, but not the way it's written, was the thing that charmed me.Before this book, I thought all love stories were pink things without interest, and Step and Babi's story made me change my mind. Oh, my favourite book!I read it after the movie was out, a long time after.

Usually when other people like it, I don't, and that's what happened with the movie, but the book. Woahh, I didn't expected it to be so breathtaking. I loved it.The movie wasn't related with the book at all.I fall in love with their love. I don't blame Babi for her desicion, despite all Step was a little violent.

It was just like half of his heart died with his best friend! I have seen the italian movie before many many years. And i really really loved Step, the way that he loves Babi. Many people told me that i should read the book in italian, but because i dont speak italian i bought it in Spanish.

The book was the version of the Spanish movie. In general books are better than the movies. After watching again both of italian and spanish versions and reading the first book in spanish, I can say that the book it was a disaster.

The spanish movie wasn't worth. The book it was boring. Nothing special. Maybe if i was reading in italian i would like it more. But the feeling that you have watching the italian movie, you dont have it when you read the book. And even when i finished the book i had many questions.

I should read the second, but being soo disappointed of the first i dont know if i will. I swear to Jesus, this book is trash, but you want to read it just to see how much shit it can eat. There are so many moments when you just want to punch someone in the face for this.Let me present some things that happen in this book that make no sense:1.

Like this: Two people. Her body naked. His arms around hers. Who in their right mind makes descriptions like this?16. A LOT OF FUCKING DRAMA. Her family is rich, has to pay the school over the fact that she skipped a fucking day or else she will be expelled. He has a tragic past: mom's a whore (actually she is not, she had an affair because she was in an unhappy marriage, is seen years later with the same man).Honestly, I can go on and on with this bullcrap of a dumpster fire.

The ending is rushed, but it tries to point out that they ARE BOTH STILL IN LOVE THIS IS SO SAD ISN'T IT READER? No, I don't care. Moving on.17. SHE GETS A FUCKING TATTOO AND SHE IS A MINOR.18. He has the most stupid fucking tattoo I have ever heard of: an eagle spitting fire.

WHO THE FUCK GETS AN EAGLE SPITTING FIRE?!?!As I was reading it, there was one thought in my head: This is shit. This shit got published.

This man has no idea teens are broke fucks. This man has no idea what a naked body looks like. This man has no idea how a teenage girl thinks like. This is dumpster fire material and I suffered through it just so I can write this rant which will get edits to include more examples of how stupid this crap is. I get that this book is a cult book in Italy (particularly Rome) and in Southern Europe. I get that everyone and their mother loves the book. And I just.couldn't.

I have this policy where I read every book that someone else buys for me because I am nice like that. And for some reason my father loves buying me books that I know I'll hate. He bought me some Katie Price books, so compared to that trash, everything is good. Now, I am one of those people that read everything from Salinger to Sara I get that this book is a cult book in Italy (particularly Rome) and in Southern Europe. And I speak Italian and Italy is a country close to my heart and very close to my homecountry.

Maybe I'm too old for this book. I'm turning 20 in 3 days.

But OMG I hated this book. I hated Step and pretty much everyone. The main character's sister was my favourite character(although she was not that important to the storyline) but I just liked their relationship and I thought it was one of the best things in the book.

I know this book doesn't want to glorify violence and death, but it kind of does. Because I'll read this and think 'wow that Step is a messed up guy I hope he deals with his demons' while your 12-year-old reader will want to find 'a bad biker boy that will teach her how to skip school, kidnap dogs and get into fights' and I don't think that's healthy. I really don’t like his obsession with details. After all, putting aside the fact that I’ve already seen the movie before Reading de book (bad thing if you ask me); I like the book so much more than the movie, obviously.I started reading, one page after the other, the book was so different, included the names of the characters; that make my reading very difficult at the beginning, because I’ve already seen the movie. There was so many things, so many details, for me, was just a book, one more.I keep reading, one page, one more and so on. One day I’d found myself reading in the night, I didn’t sleep, I read tree hundreds of pages. Crazy.Word after word the pages were gone, and there I was, reading and reading. It was a bit after the middle of the book, something changed me, the things were perfect, all putted in his place. Perfect time, perfect words, and easily I found myself in the last pages. At the time, I didn’t know that, at the end the book was going to change my life a little bit, a little. It was so beautiful, I cried, in the same part that I did in the movie.

Exactly the same time! It make me go and tell my friends how much I love them and how important they are to me. For me, it wasn’t just a love story, it was so much more. And I think I would never read Moccia again, I have this beautiful feeling, this thing I don’t know how to explain, that perhaps I could see in the movie but isn’t always the book better? ‘Three Meters above the Sky’ is a gripping book with inspirational characters, not as versatile as I expected, but with quite involving and many-sided plot.

It tells the story of two teenagers who belong to extremely different worlds. Babi is described as the good girl with exemplary conduct, whereas Step fits completely the profile of a bad boy. He does not have a regular job, has a tendency to steal things and sell them for money.

When Babi and Step fell in love, two different worlds collide and, consequently, therefore appear many emotional cataclysms. An interesting fact is that the book was first published in 1992 and the writer himself had paid the edit. Thankfully, the book became an instant bestseller. It was re-edited in 2004 and then it had had even greater success, great enough to inspire film producers to make a movie.

In fact, there are two movies based on the book – an Italian and a Spanish version. The second is known to be more successful, probably because the public adored the actors Mario Casas and Maria Valverde, playing the main characters of Step and Babi.I definitely recommend the book, but do not set your expectation too high. For a teenage read, it is truly piece of art. Although the plot is not very complex, nor unique, it is dynamic and engaging. It is also very appropriate to read while in vacation or if you want to make a break from the classic thrillers, crime fiction or fantasy books. To my mind, ‘Three Meters above the Sky’ should be included in a list of the best romantic books about teenagers of all time. This is a book which perfectly demonstrates the recklessness of falling in love for the first time.

One’s first real love and first real relationship can hardly be described as a relationship, if I’m to be honest. It’s more like preparation, a wannabe mock relationship condensed into a much shorter period of time, with emotions all over the place. It happens, it’s there and then it just goes away. You are more likely to turn a blind eye to the screw-ups your first partner makes. It is all beautiful and magical for a while, but then life knocks you down, revealing all the discrepancies you spent so much time trying to avoid. So, no matter how strong, pure and addictive that first love is, it is seldom strong enough to withstand all the punches in store.

Il Cielo Hours

While neither the boy nor the girl seem particularly loveable to me, I still have heaps of respect and admiration for this novel for presenting that hectic, chaotic, rushed first romance and its inevitable demise with such accuracy and heart, yet without embellishments.
